Nantucket

Nantucket! The Native American name means “far-away land,” and set out in the Atlantic Ocean, thirty miles off the Massachusetts coast, this idyllic “elbow of sand,” is an island lost in time. Nantucket is a stunning combination of the old and new, the historic and the unspoiled.

Over 800 pre-civil war homes line the cobblestone streets of town, nestled among world-class - yet unique - restaurants, shops and galleries.

Delicious dining abounds – whether you prefer an elegant dinner in a fine restaurant or a clambake on the beach at sunset. Nantucket offers dining experiences to satisfy every culinary appetite. Island specialties include world-renowned Nantucket Bay Scallops, farm-fresh tomatoes and corn, bluefish pate and beach plum jelly.

Nantucket is a haven for shoppers and harbors an impressive array of shops and boutiques to fulfill every taste, from the traditional to the whimsical. Because many of these stores are small and independently owned, you’ll enjoy a rare level of personal attention.

The intimacy of the early days of Nantucket as an artist’s colony continues to thrive today. Arts, crafts, theatre, dance, music and film all express the creativity Nantucket inspires. The island’s glorious past can also be found in the graceful objects presented in antique shops and galleries across Nantucket.

Beyond Nantucket town stretches miles of pristine beaches and rolling moorlands, a nature-lover’s dream. Whether it’s surfcasting off the south shore, sailing in the tranquil water of the Nantucket Sound, swimming in the Atlantic, touring the island or biking the miles of scenic bike paths, the natural beauty of the island offers plenty to enjoy, regardless of the season.

Caressed by the temperate currents of the Gulf Stream, Nantucket is an inviting destination any time of year. From the multi-hued autumn harvest and festive holiday season to the daffodil-laden springtime, the island offers an unforgettable experience for everyone.
